Part 4
Table of contents
Overview
So far this semester, you have identified a problem, explored the design space, selected a promising design, and iterated on that design. Now you need to communicate your design and your design process. This will be accomplished through a website and a video prototype.
This assignment is worth 15 of the 60 points of your course project. The following are the stages that you need to complete for this assignment:
Part | Due Date |
---|---|
4A Video Prototype (7 points) | Thu., Apr. 27 @ 11:59 pm |
4B Website (8 points) | Thu., Apr. 27 @ 11:59 pm |
Project Description
The following are the brief expectations for each part:
- Part 4A: Using the storyboards that you created for your 2 tasks in Assignment 2 as a guideline, along with your paper prototype and digital mockups, you will create a video prototype demonstrating your design.
- Part 4B: You will create a website to exhibit your entire design process. You need to collect your final reports and presentations from Assignments 2 and 3 and post them on to this website. You will also post your video prototype here.
Part 4A – Video Prototype
Due Date: Thu., Apr. 27 @ 11:59 pm
The goal of this part is for you to create a video that communicates your design to a broad audience.
Essentially, you will demonstrate how to use your design. Working from your prior storyboards (or new storyboards that you deem necessary based on feedback, usability tests and heuristic evaluations), create a video that illustrates your proposed design.
You need to use your paper prototypes and/or digital mockups to convey these tasks. You need to demonstrate the transitions from different interface options and menus for your two main tasks.
Be sure your video conveys all of:
- the problem: what is it that you are trying to solve
- the design: demonstrate aspects of your design with respect to the tasks
- the context: in what settings and environment your design is being used
- the satisfaction: show the tasks being completed with success
Add narration while demonstrating your tasks on the digital mockups to provide additional information and clarity.
Some software you could use are:
- iMovie (macOS and iOS)
- Adobe Rush (Android and iOS)
There is other software that you could use – the above are just some examples of well-known software.
Deliverable
Your video must be at most 2 minutes long. It is critical that your video be short enough to remain engaging while delivering its content.
Contributions
Your submission must also include a team contribution statement as an additional page in your submission, just as in previous parts. This will be used to adjust your grades in case of unequal participation.
Submission
Ensure your video is in a portable and standard format (e.g., H.264 in an MP4 container). Ensure your video is less than 50MB in size.
You will submit through Blackboard.
Grading
This will be graded on a scale of 7 points:
- Content: (4 points)
- Conveys the problem addressed by the design
- Conveys the design itself
- Conveys the context of interaction
- Conveys the satisfaction of the design
- Presentation: (3 points)
- Reasonable level of production value
- Appropriately edited and paced

Part 4B – Website
Due Date: Thu., Apr. 27 @ 11:59 pm
The goal here is to create project website to demonstrate the work you have accomplished and to showcase your skills in designing a product focused on design interactions.
Deliverable
You can create a page using any service, such as Wix and Weebley, or you can host your website. Include the following items on your website:
- Part 2 report and presentation
- Part 3 report and presentation
- Video Prototype
- Usually site builders allow you to host the videos directly
- Or you can host the video on YouTube and link it on your webpage
Contributions
Your submission must also include a team contribution statement as an additional page in your submission, just as in previous parts. This will be used to adjust your grades in case of unequal participation.
Submission
You must provide the link to your website, containing the above requirements.
You will submit through Blackboard.
Grading
Your website will be graded on a scale of 8 points:
- Content: (5 points)
- Key features of the design are clear
- Gives insight into the design process
- Links to your 2 reports, 2 presentations, and video prototype
- Presentation: (3 points)
- Looks professional and is something you would consider including in a design portfolio
